Sapporo Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival 008.JPG
Blocks of frozen snow await ice and snow sculpture teams from around the world, who will compete for prizes. These are not traditional Frosty the Snowmen, but huge carved and chiseled Samurai Warriors, Buddhists gods, historical heroes of fairy tales and Walt Disney characters. Some stand as big as buildings. Chiseled out of tons of packed snow, the sculptures are the pride and job of the residents of Sapporo, Japan, who hosts the world famous Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival for five days in early February.Themes of the sculptures are picked from Kabuki stages, historical characters or fairy tales.
